SCI patients can now think about what they can and can't do - Epidural Stimulation Now

SCI patients can now think about what they “can do” not what they “can’t do”

Living with a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) is hard. Being stripped of one’s ability to perform even the simplest of tasks can lead to depression and resentment, and sometimes life feels hopeless. But in reality, there is hope for SCI patients today.

A growing number of SCI patients are being regiven the ability to complete simple tasks, and they are doing them with indomitable spirits. These strong-willed individuals are making improvements through sheer willpower and by focusing on what they can do, not what they can’t do.

A prime example of individuals who beat their disabilities are Paralympics athletes. They accomplish tasks far beyond what you and I consider simple, despite many of them suffering from SCI.

Any SCI sufferer is now able to receive a breakthrough treatment called Epidural Stimulation, which involves the surgical implantation of an electronic stimulation device directly onto the injured spine.

It helps patients go from weak and bed-ridden, to actively pursuing difficult goals and regaining control. It doesn’t happen overnight, but recovering from injuries ranging from high cervical spine injuries to lower lumbar injuries can be done with a persistent and proactive mindset and the right medical care, like these patients received from Unique Access Medical (UAM).

UAM is a great place to start your journey towards recovery. Many of our patients have seen fantastic results through an intelligent combination of Epidural Stimulation and other supplemental therapies.

Our patients experience improvements in fine motor control, better bladder and bowel control, and greater overall strength. Most remarkably, paraplegics and quadriplegics have been able to stand up again with voluntary control of their extremities, all because of the electrical impulses provided by the Epidural Stimulation device.

Patients like Kelly have made great progress after receiving treatment at Unique Access Medical. Walking with assistance is becoming more natural to her, and she started regaining sensation in her legs. She has also started to regain voluntary movements for her glutes and thighs.

Luis is a patient with complete paralysis who has made significant improvements in terms of sensation and strength; and Payton emphasized the importance of staying positive and has started to regain some control over his arms and legs as well, and is on his way to unassisted standing through intensive physical therapy.

Many other patients have shared their testimonials on just how far they’ve come after Epidural Stimulation, so if you are curious or interested in our treatments for Spinal Cord Injury, please send us an email. Our patient representatives are more than happy to address any queries that you may have or set up an appointment for you with our physicians.
