C7 Spinal Cord Injury Patient Isaac - Epidural Stimulation

Epidural Stimulation Makes Huge Strides With Paralysed Canadian.

The medical field has been waiting for decades for a treatment that will help Spinal Cord Injury patients overcome some of the major obstacles in their lives. Epidural Stimulation, despite it being a rather recent invention, has marked a milestone for many and has brought hope to those that are wheelchair dependent.

After a brief surgery during which this device is inserted, there will be an implantation of electrodes that will stimulate a large number of actions in the spinal cord. This technique is considered a turning point for many patients that suffer from Spinal Cord Injury and has had a positive impact in the lives of many ever since it was first created.

The process involves the implantation of electrodes that are designed to stimulate different actions in the spinal cord, and it’s made a huge impact on how the medical world views spinal injury treatment. The implant has been improving the lives of many. Lives like one of our recent patient, Isaac Darrell.

“I’ve heard that it’s a pretty non-invasive surgery, there are not too many complications and risks involved and I’m pretty happy about that.”

Isaac’s life changed forever over 4 years ago after he was paralysed from the waist down because of a diving accident. Having been an active athlete, being unable to use his lower limbs was an uphill ordeal for him and yet, Isaac strongly decided that he would not allow for his condition to bring him down. An arduous research for procedures that would assist him in regaining his quality of life back had begun; he would do everything to find a treatment that would help him. After searching online, he stumbled upon some sites that talked about the benefits of stem dell treatments that were being done in Bangkok, Thailand. It is then that he decided that this would be the only option that might help him regain the use of his lower limbs.

It was shortly after arriving in Thailand that Isaac admitted how impressed he was with the top-notch facilities, even when compared to hospitals in Canada, his home country. Once he met the doctors and all the other staff members, he underwent the epidural implant surgery.

After a short recovery, the day to turn the device on had finally arrived. To his surprised, he was immediately able to move his legs for the first time since his horrible accident and he was even capable of standing up on his own using parallel bars.

Even though Isaac didn’t want to be overly optimistic, he had faith in the epidural stimulation therapy and he would have been happy had he gotten any kind of minimal improvement from the treatment. Fortunately, the outstanding results obtained went beyond his expectations.

With the help, support and love from all his family, friends and from the entire medical team, Isaac feels strongly encouraged to carry on down the path of total recovery.
